☠ Game Guide
Everything you need to know to sail, level, and conquer on Dark Pirate Online.
⚓ Getting Started
1. Create Your Account
- Click Register in the top navigation and fill in your username, email, and password.
- Head to Downloads and install the game client.
- Launch the client, log in with your new account, and create your first character.
2. Starter Quest Chain
When you first enter the game, speak to Ronnie (NPC) to begin the 12-quest "Adventure Start" story chain. It walks you through the game's basics and rewards gold, EXP, and a free pet along the way — see the full step-by-step walkthrough below.
3. Claim Your Newbie Rewards
Once your email is verified, visit the Newbie Reward NPC (standing beside Senna in Argent City) to claim two one-time gifts — each limited to one per player/email/IP/MAC, regardless of how many accounts or characters you make:
4. First Steps
- Use
ALT + Ato open your stat window and allocate stat points on each level up. - Join a party early — party EXP is 15× vs solo 10×, so grouping is always worthwhile.
- Visit the Item Mall (
/shop) to buy IMP, then spend it in-game on cosmetics, EXP/drop boosters, and gear — see Items & Fair Play for what's actually sold.
📜 Story Quest Walkthrough
The full 12-step "Adventure Start" chain, in order. Most of it runs through Ronnie at Argent City (2249,2746) — follow the on-screen prompts and talk to him again after each task to continue.
ALT + E, double-click your Newbie Chest to equip your starting gear.ALT + A and allocate your stat points.ALT + S and drag your Combo Attack onto an F1–F12 hotkey.⚔ Character Classes
Your character model (Lance, Carsise, Phyllis, or Ami — chosen at character creation) determines which base classes and promotions are available to you. Promotion is not a free choice between two paths on every class — for Swordsman, your model locks in a single promotion line.
Swordsman
High melee damage and defence. Best for tanking bosses and leading parties. Relies on STR and CON.
Hunter
Long-range attacker with high DEX. Excellent for solo grinding — can kite monsters from a safe distance.
Explorer
A versatile hybrid who masters both the seas and close combat. Great for players who want flexibility.
Herbalist
Support specialist with powerful healing and debuffing skills. Essential for high-level party content. Both promotions are staff-users, available on the Phyllis and Ami models.
🧬 Character Models & Available Classes
Pick your character model carefully — it fixes which classes you can ever become on that character.
🎓 Job Change Guide
Every character starts as a plain "Freshman" with no class. Talk to the right NPC once you meet the level and model requirements below to pick your first class (1st job). At Level 40 you can return to (mostly) the same NPC to promote further (2nd job).
🥇 First Job Change (Lv 8–10+)
🥈 Second Job Change (Promotion, Lv 40+)
Every promotion requires Level 40+ on your current 1st job. Swordsman and Herbalist each branch into two possible 2nd jobs — pick whichever quest you complete first. Hunter and Explorer each have exactly one 2nd-job path.
✨ Rebirth System
Rebirth is a one-time, optional reset that lets an already-promoted character switch to a different advanced class, refund all spent stat and skill points, and gain a permanent passive power boost that grows the more you re-level afterward.
🪨 Step 1 — Get a Rebirth Stone
🗺 Dark Swamp has only 1 floor — all three rune elites are spread across it; Master Swamp Watcher is deepest at (365, 1303).
🗺 Demonic World: Enter DW1 from the portal in Argent City. Inside DW1, a second portal leads to DW2. Both floors drop Mel and Amon Runes.
⏰ All zones are on a 3-hour open schedule — see the Leveling tab for portal timings. Dark Swamp and Forsaken City give no EXP, so bring gear and farm efficiently.
😇 Step 2 — Talk to the Rebirth Angel
With a Rebirth Stone in your bag (and at least 5 free inventory slots), find the Rebirth Angel NPC in Heaven and choose your new class from the dialogue menu. Each rebirth class is restricted to certain starting character models:
🎁 What You Get
- Your class changes to the one you picked from the Rebirth Angel's menu.
- All base stat points (STR/DEX/AGI/CON/STA) are reset and refunded to spend again.
- All learned fight skills are cleared and their skill points refunded.
- You receive a set of wings and a new job skill book.
- You permanently gain the passive skill Rebirth Mystic Power — the more you level up after rebirthing, the stronger it gets: roughly +5.5% damage and +5.5% damage reduction right away, scaling further with each level gained post-rebirth.
🛡 Best Equipment Sets
Both top-tier armor sets are wearable by all classes — armor isn't class-restricted like weapons are. Black Dragon is farmed in-game; Kylin is bought in the Item Mall.
🏆 Kylin Set — Best in Slot
The full set is sold directly in the Item Mall → Forging → Kylin Gear tab for IMP. Soul of Kylin (100 IMP, Forging → Upgrade Souls) is a separate item used afterward to upgrade owned Kylin gear to a stronger version.
Armor, Gloves, and Boots can also be bought together as the Kylin Full Set bundle for 650 IMP. The Kylin Cap only has textures for the Ami character model — other models complete their set without it.
🐉 Black Dragon Set — Level 75 (All Classes)
The stepping-stone set before Kylin. Equippable by all classes. Upgraded "Corporeal / Rightful" variants exist with slightly improved stats.
⚔ Best Weapons by Class
Each class has its own weapon line. The progression below is the confirmed Lv50 → Lv75 chain, sourced from each class's own reward chests and boss-drop items.
🛒 Lv45 / Lv55 Weapons — Blacksmith Goldie
An earlier, no-farming gear option for the same six classes, sold directly for gold at Blacksmith Goldie (Argent City) alongside the Black Dragon armor above.
🔨 How to Get Kylin Gear
- Item Mall → Forging → Kylin Gear — Buy Armor, Gloves, and Boots individually (200–250 IMP each) or as the Full Set bundle (650 IMP), plus Ring (100 IMP each, buy 2) and Necklace (100 IMP) separately.
- Kylin Token — Farm from named bosses (Terra Elder, Snowman Warlord, Black Dragon, King Tortoise, Violent Bear, Gold Scorpion King, Abyss/Hell boss line) or a smaller-match prize from the Tiger slot-machine, or trade for one with another player. Collect 20, then talk to the Kylin Gear Broker NPC and exchange them for Armor, Gloves, or Boots only — not Ring or Necklace.
- Soul of Kylin — Upgrades owned Kylin gear to a stronger version. Available in Item Mall → Forging → Upgrade Souls for 100 IMP each (one per piece).
📈 Leveling Guide
EXP Rates
- Solo EXP: 10× base rate
- Party EXP: 15× base rate — partying always gives more total EXP
- Team bonus: Each additional party member further increases the shared EXP pool from every kill — party EXP scales up with group size, not just a flat split
Level Zones (Recommended)
🔥 Endgame: The Abaddon Zones
Five escalating Abaddon zones (Lv100–200+) hold the toughest fights on the server, including the Abyss Lord bosses and Kylin Token farming. Buy passage from Furnace of Immortality (NPC, Spring Town — 3258,2502) — no quest required:
🎫 Seasonal & Special Travel
The Seasonal Ticket Merchant (NPC, Argent City — 2231,2785, near Senna) sells one-way passage tickets to a few special zones:
- Pass to Spring Town — a quiet sub-area of the Deep Blue Archipelago.
- Pass to Summer — Summer Island, also within Deep Blue.
- Pass to Sacred Snow Mountain — a snowy zone near Garner.
- Caribbean Tour Ticket — passage to the Caribbean.
- Ticket to Winter Island — see below.
🌀 Scheduled Zone Portals
Three zones open through timed portals in Argent City, each on its own 3-hour cycle (1 hour open for entry, then 1 more hour of grace to keep farming before the portal closes). The three are staggered an hour apart so they never overlap:
/checkmap Dark Swamp (or Forsaken City / Demonic World) in-game chat to check the live countdown to the next opening.
💎 Gem farming: Forsaken City's Abandoned Chests can drop an Azrael Gem Chest (random +8 stat gem); Dark Swamp's Mudman-line monsters (Huge Mud Monster, Swamp Bog, Swamp Man) drop Great Gems (Rage / Colossus / Striking / Wind / Soul).
⚡ Fast Pace
A quick, no-level-requirement farming zone in Argent City — grants 5× bonus EXP on top of the server's normal solo/party rates, making it a strong leveling stop at any stage of the game. The portal is always open — no schedule to wait for, drop in any time.
🌀 Obscure Domain (Kyjj 1–3)
Three always-open boss floors near the Argent Teleporter, each with a single tough boss on a 24-hour respawn:
🎲 Dream Realm & Lucky Chance
A permanent, always-open portal inside Icicle Castle leads to the Dream Realm — a pure kill-race zone with no item drops. Requires Level 75+ to enter. Kill Dream Sprites (Lv82) as fast as you can — every kill counts automatically toward that day's leaderboard, no drops to worry about, just speed.
Lucky Chance also runs a slot-machine gambling minigame: 2 Betting Tokens per payline, up to 3 paylines per spin (2/4/6 tokens total). Smaller matches pay out gold plus a mix of Dark Dice, Kylin Token, or Bear Fang Token. The rare jackpot ("Immense Wealth" — a full-board match across all 3 paylines) pays 10,000,000 gold + a Grand Prize Voucher, plus one random bonus prize at equal odds: a Kylin Ring, Mordo Jr pet, or Kylin Armor/Gloves/Boots — with a further 1% chance to also win a Seraphina fairy on top.
❄ Winter Island
A high-level zone (Lv100+ monsters: Frost Chimera, Snow Leopard, Pumpkin General, Blooding Warrior, and the rare Icy Dragon) reachable via a one-way Ticket to Winter Island, sold by the Seasonal Ticket Merchant (Argent City).
🎄 Chaos Xmas
A seasonal event portal in Shaitan City, opens every 7 hours for 35 minutes. Requires Level 55+ and an entry fee of 50 gold × your level. Teleports you to Converse Christmas Village.
🥊 1v1 / Team PK Arena
Looking for a straight-up duel instead of a scheduled event? Head to the Argent City Bar and invite another player (or team) to a 1v1 or team-vs-team PK match — no portal, no waiting for a timer, just challenge and fight.
⚔️ Chaos Swamp (Bounty Hunter PK)
A dedicated PvP zone near Shaitan City, opens every 3 hours. Requires Level 45+ (no upper cap) to enter, and you can't enter while in a party — solo bounty hunting only. The portal accepts new entrants for the first 30 minutes; the whole map runs for 50 minutes total, then force-closes and everyone is warped out.
The danger escalates the longer you stay — a rotating boss appears and gets replaced by something stronger every 10 minutes, and Chaos Chests spawn in the map's corners at set times too:
🎟 The sole survivor also earns a Betting Token, but only at the 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00 matches.
🐲 Chaos Argent
A large-scale PvP arena reached via a timed portal in Icicle City (Lower Icicle Castle, near coords 1371,531), opening every 6 hours. Requires Level 41+, a Medal of Valor, and a 5,000g entry fee — can't enter while in a party. The portal stops accepting entrants after 30 minutes; the map fully closes after 45.
Waves of monsters spawn every 5 minutes, escalating in difficulty, up to a massive final wave of Black Dragon variant Phantoms around the 35-minute mark. Survivors still inside when the map closes split a 1,000,000 gold prize pool, plus a bonus item for the last 5 (or fewer) players standing — the sole survivor gets a special "Only Survivor" reward and server-wide announcement.
- Check your kill count for the week
- Exchange 10 Dark Fragments → 1 Dark Coin
- Exchange 10 Dark Coins for a Kylin Ring, Admiral Cloak, or Crab Mount
- Claim a weekly bonus if you finish in the top 3 killers — 1st place gets 7 bonus Fragments, 2nd gets 5, 3rd gets 2
🐉 Black Dragon Lair
The original Black Dragon (Lv90) boss makes its home here, reachable from a portal near lower Icicle Castle. A handful of the Black Dragon variant elites (Lance/Carsise/Phyllis/Ami, Lv75) can also be found roaming Obscure Domain 2 alongside Terra Elder, on a 30-minute respawn.
Important Notes
- Fighting monsters far above your level gives sharply reduced EXP — always fight monsters near your level.
- Party EXP is shared based on each member's contribution and level gap to the kill — bringing underleveled friends reduces everyone's share.
- Use a Heaven's Berry or Amplifier of Strive for double EXP, or a Hi-Amplifier of Strive (Lv 60+) for 2.5× EXP plus a chance at Lucky Strike — none of these three require real money, see Items & Fair Play for exactly how to earn each one in-game.
- Having a Mentor relationship below level 40 gives you a Mini Amplifier of Strive on every level up.
🚢 Ship System
Ships are a core part of PKO — you can level your ship alongside your character for sea combat and transportation.
Ship EXP
- Ship EXP rate is 10× — ships level quickly on our server.
- You gain ship EXP when killing monsters at sea while aboard your vessel.
- Higher ship level → more HP, better cannon damage, faster speed.
Sea Combat Tips
- Keep your ship level within 10 levels of the monsters you fight at sea.
- Voyager class players provide the best ship buffs — bring one to your sea party.
- Sea monster bosses drop rare materials for ship upgrades.
⚖ Items & Fair Play
Item Mall (IMP Shop)
IMP is purchased with real money on the Shop page and spent in-game. The mall's current active catalog:
- Decoration / Cosmetics — the bulk of the mall: weapon skins, class outfit sets, hats, wings, glow effects, coloured names, and titles. Purely cosmetic, no stats.
- Hi-Amplifier of Strive / Hi-Amplifier of Luck — 65 IMP for 2, Lv 60+. 2.5× EXP with a Lucky Strike chance, or 3× drop rate, for 30 minutes. Free alternative: trade 2× Elven Signet with InnKeeper Marriam (Argent City) for 1 without spending IMP.
- Kylin Gear — see the Equipment section above. Full Set 650 IMP, Armor 250, Gloves/Boots 200 each, Ring 100 (buy 2), Necklace 100 — real stat-boosting best-in-slot armor, not cosmetic.
- Upgrade Souls — Soul of Kylin (100 IMP), Black Dragon (80), Hardin/Darkness/Abaddon/Asura/Abyss/Styx (60 each) — upgrade the matching boss-tier gear set.
- 54 / 60 Slot Inventory — 40 / 50 IMP individually, or the Inventory Pack bundle (both together) for 75 IMP — see Bag / Inventory Slots below for the full tier list.
- Rebirth Stone — 600 IMP, used to Rebirth a character (see the Rebirth section).
- Misc. — Voodoo Puppet (5 IMP ×7, removes death EXP penalty), Stat Reset Vials (2 IMP each), Skill Reset Book (65 IMP), Name Change Card (200 IMP), Weightless Potion (15 IMP ×3).
Not Sold in the Mall
- Charmed Berry / Heaven's Berry — 2× EXP (or 2× drop rate for Charmed Berry) for 15 minutes. Neither is purchasable with IMP. Both are sold for gold by the Potion Seller NPC (Argent City) — Heaven's Berry for 5,000g, Charmed Berry x2 for 50,000g. Heaven's Berry is also earned from quest/NPC rewards, a Capture-the-Flag event reward, boat-upgrade quest rewards, mystery boxes, or trading 5× Buccaneers Card with the relevant NPC.
- Amplifier of Strive / Amplifier of Luck — The base (non-Hi) versions: 2× EXP or 2× drop rate for 30 minutes. Not sold in the mall. Trade with InnKeeper Marriam (near Pet Commerce, Argent City) — 50× Prosperous Packet for Amplifier of Luck, or 50× Bronze Hunter Coin for Amplifier of Strive. See InnKeeper Marriam — Packet & Coin Exchange below for the full trade list and where those currencies come from.
- Party EXP Fruit — 1.5× EXP for the whole party for 15 minutes (party leader use). Not sold in the mall — bought for 15,000g from the Potion Seller NPC (Argent City).
- Fairy Box — Not sold in the mall. Contains a random pet Fairy (1-of-8, equal odds: Luck, Strength, Constitution, Spirit, Accuracy, Agility, Evil, or a Mordo Jr). Guaranteed from Quest 12 of the starter chain (your first pet) and from the Level 40 second-job Newbie Chest. Beyond that: any monster Level 100+ has a small chance (0.05%) to drop one straight into your temp bag on kill, plus rarer drops (0.1–0.5%) from Puzzle World bosses, the Hell/Purgatory Abyss boss line, Chaos Xmas's boss rotation, Chaos Swamp's escalating bosses, and boss loot chests (Chest of Demonic World, Obscure Chest).
- Strengthening Scroll / Crystal — Recipe and catalyst items for the equipment strengthening process. Drops from monster kills (see rates below).
- Kylin Token — Tradeable between players. Collect 20 and exchange at the Kylin Gear Broker for Kylin Armor, Gloves, or Boots only — never Ring or Necklace — see the Equipment section. Drops (low chance, roughly 0.03–2.5% depending on the boss) from named bosses: Terra Elder, Snowman Warlord, Black Dragon, King Tortoise, Violent Bear, Gold Scorpion King, and the Abyss/Hell boss line. Also a possible smaller-match prize from the Tiger slot-machine minigame (the jackpot itself gives a Kylin Ring instead, not a Token — see Dream Realm).
- Bear Fang Token — Tradeable between players. Dropped by Violent Bears in Obscure Domain 3. Collect 50 and exchange at the Weapon Broker NPC for a Lv75 class boss weapon — Tear of Hardin (Champion), Darkness Emissary (Crusader), Kiss of Death (Sharpshooter bow), Abaddon Vanquisher (Sharpshooter gun), Vow of Styx (Seal Master), Penitent of Asura (Voyager), or Putrescence Bone of Abyss (Cleric) — see Equipment.
Strengthening Scroll (Lv100+, 0.5%) and Strengthening Crystal (Lv80+, 2%) drop from monster kills at those level thresholds; Soul of Kylin (Lv110+, 0.05%) similarly.
💎 Jewel & Coin Exchange
Two exchange NPCs stand together in Lower Icicle Castle and trade different currencies for gear chests:
Fairy Coin is earned through the pet/fairy system, stacks up to 99 per bag slot. Ruby / Opal / Topaz / Diamond can drop straight into your temp bag from killing any monster, regardless of level — they have no use on their own beyond this trade-in. Dark Dice comes from winning Chaos Swamp as sole survivor two matches in a row.
🎒 Bag / Inventory Slots
Your starting inventory expands in sequential tiers: 24 → 28 → 32 → 36 → 40 → 44 → 48 → 54 → 60 slots. Each tier requires the previous one already owned — you can't skip ahead.
🍺 InnKeeper Marriam — Packet & Coin Exchange
Found near Pet Commerce in Argent City. Marriam trades three different currencies for a mix of consumables and bracers — no bag slots here, despite the name similarity to the Potion Seller's inventory upgrades above.
💠 Gems
Named gem drops — Azrael gems, Eye/Soul/Heart of Black Dragon, the Great Gem series, and all of Commercia's shop gems — run on the exact same underlying gem system as regular attribute gems. That means every one of them can be combined up to Lv9 and forged (socketed) onto equipment the same way — but each one is restricted to specific equipment types, so check the tables below before you farm or buy.
⚔ Where each gem can be forged
Example: Great Gem of Rage is a Str gem, so it only makes sense on a weapon (matching its "all weapons" restriction) — socketing it on armor isn't an option. Same logic for every gem above: match the stat to the gear type it's actually allowed on.
🛒 Commercia's Basic Weapon/Armor Gems
Cheap, gold-bought basics — Commercia sells these directly for a few hundred gold each (the Gem of Rage/Colossus/Striking/Wind/Soul row above is the base tier of this same cheap lineup, listed there since it mirrors the Great Gem series). These don't carry a fixed stat number in their own item description; they're sorted purely by which gear category they fit:
Also on her shelf: Gem Composition Scroll (941g, combines 2 gems of the same grade into 1 of the next grade up — a separate, item-based combine method from the Gem Combiner menu), and Blacksmith Pliers (610g, extracts a socketed gem back out of equipment).
🛒 Commercia's Stat Gems (bought for gold, not farmed)
Unlike the drops above, these five are sold directly by Commercia (Argent City) for gold — no farming required — but each is locked to one specific slot:
Commercia also sells a few forge support items worth knowing about: Reforging Scroll (5,000,000g, moves a gem from one piece of equipment to another), Gem Slot Card (10,000g, used with the Gem Moving Service), and Blue Forging Fruit (50,000g, boosts forge success rate — forging can still fail).
📈 Combining gems up to Lv9
All the gems above start at Lv1, whether farmed or bought from Commercia. To level one up, talk to Blacksmith Goldie or Commercia (both Argent City) and pick "Gem Combiner" — each tier combines directly from Lv1 copies of the same gem (so you need multiples of one specific gem, not a mix):
Gold cost doubles per tier at Goldie, and Commercia always charges exactly 2× Goldie's price for the same tier. When forging, the gem's level has to match the equipment's own forge level (its upgrade tier) — not your character level.
💍 Accessories
Rings, necklaces, bracelets, belts, headgear, and earrings obtainable from the Exchanger and Mineral Exchanger NPCs (Lower Icicle Castle) — see Jewel & Coin Exchange for how to earn each currency. Only chests actually sold by these two NPCs are listed here:
Ring and Necklace pools only include named items that actually grant a Str/Agi/Acc/Con/Spr bonus; the Bracelet, Belt, Headgear, and Earring pools roll their full item list as-is, so some results may carry only secondary stats (Def, HP, Hit, etc.) or none at all.
| Item | Pool | Lv | Bonuses |
|---|
Bonus ranges are rolled once, at random, when the item is created — two players opening the same chest can get different rolls of the same named item. Core stats (Str/Agi/Acc/Con/Spr) are capped per tier: Rings up to 14/17/20 (Lv20/40/60), Necklaces up to 5/8/10 (Lv20/40/60).
🐾 Pet System
Pets follow your character and grant permanent stat bonuses while equipped.
- Equip a pet in the Pet slot (open character window with
C). - Pets grant stat bonuses (STR, DEX, CON, etc.) based on their level and type.
- Feed your pet regularly to keep it happy and maintain its bonuses.
- A Fairy pet grants extra EXP bonus while active — great for the 80-120 grind.
- Obtain your first pet from the Starter Quest (Fairy Box reward on Quest 12), or see Items & Fair Play for every other way to get a Fairy Box.
